Bangkok is known for food heaven, from fine dining with Michelin Stars to very affordable and delicious street foods. There are several well-known areas that are famous among foreigners but for a true local community, Street Foods in Phetchburi Soi 5 and Soi 7 in the Phaya Thai neighborhood would be among one of the oldest and most authentic.

Phetchburi Soi 5 and Soi 7 are hidden between the modern shopping area of Siam and Victory Monument and within close proximity to Pratunam (Fashion Clothing Area). Phetchburi Soi 5 and Soi 7 can be easily accessed via BTS (Phaya Thai Station) linked to Airport Rail Link with under 10-min walk.

Soi 5 is both a daytime and evening fix with plenty of options including local seasonal fruits, noodles (Pad Thai), stir fries, snacks, curries, Tom Yam Kung and a variety of meat and fish for the grill. As this is in a neighbourhood area, prime time is in the evening after 5 pm when a lot of new stalls open up to start serving people coming home from work.

Most stalls, hawkers and vendors are pure take away, but some vendors also have a few tables outside.

200 metres down the Soi, you find the street connecting Soi 5 and Soi 7, and that’s where you find more for your evening satisfaction. And your preferred options for the evening should include Pi Aor , which specializes in Tom Yam Kung / Pla (Shrimp / Fish Tom Yam soup). Pi Aor offers seating in side but during peak hours, you are likely to wait on a queue for a few minutes.

During daytime, a preferred option would be the pork knuckles at Soi 5 at number 239. They have tables to sit down inside and away from the sun.

Over to Soi 7, this area is famous for those searching for Halal food. With the Darul Aman Mosque nearby, there is a vibrant Muslim community in the area.
